The Danish Peace and Stabilisation Fund

Through the Peace and Stabilisation Fund’s Horn of Africa Programme, Denmark supports various activities with the aim of enhancing region-wide stability. The focus is on the volatile situation in Somalia and its spill-over effects. The programme is a joint endeavour by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Ministry of Defence and is implemented together with the Embassy of Denmark in Nairobi, Kenya. The activities in Ethiopia include:

  1. Financial support to the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) aimed at strengthening the stabilisation efforts in liberated areas and capacity building of AMISOM troops,
  2. Support to and building of the Ethiopian government’s institutional capacity to counter financial crime, not least with a view of hindering terrorist financing,
  3. Support to the Ethiopian Peace Keeping Training Centre, that trains regional peacekeeping forces (Ethiopia is now the world’s biggest provider of peacekeeping forces), and finally
  4. Support to the AU’s efforts in creating an Integrated Maritime Strategy aiming at combatting maritime crimes such as piracy, illegal fishing, illegal dumping etc.
