Consular Officer

Job Description

The Consular Officer will be part of the Embassy’s Consular Team and will report to the Head of Admin and Consular Affairs. The main responsibility is to ensure an accurate consular service, implemented in accordance with Danish Immigration Service rules, regulations, and Schengen Visa Codex. Denmark represent Iceland in Schengen and Consular matters.

The main tasks of Consular Officer
• Screening and handling of applications for Schengen visas and residence permits and passports
• Conducting interviews according to the existing guidelines
• Maintaining the register of issued, stickers, passports and Laissez Passers
• Conducting translations, verifications and legalizations
• Ensuring that correct instructions forms and guidelines are implemented
• Providing consular assistance to Danes and foreigners with a Danish permanent residence permit, such as honour related conflicts, airport cases and prison cases
• Handling of day to day consular inquiries from applicants and partners (phones, e-mails and personal approaches)
• Facilitating DNA tests and age estimation cases
• Filing consular cases and closed applications
• Supporting the Head of Admin and Consular Affairs, when needed
• Other tasks as instructed by Head of Admin and Consular Affairs/Management

Minimum requirements / Qualifications and Experience
• A Bachelor degree or similar relevant work experience
• Well organised, responsible and self-starting
• A strong team player
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in a cross – cultural and international environment
• Service minded
• Great IT user skills
• Flexible and able to work under pressure
• Experience from an embassy and as a consular officer would be an advantage
• Knowledge from an Ethiopian context would be an advantage
• Excellent communication skills in English orally and written
• Knowledge of Amharic and Somali would be an asset

Terms of Employment
We offer a 37,5 hours working week, a friendly and informal working environment, which provides opportunities to develop your competencies in an international
environment. Employment conditions will be follow local Terms and Conditions and employment is subject to security clearance by relevant Danish Authorities. The salary package will depend on experience and qualifications.
